Mendelssohn’s overture, based on Shakespeare’s comedy of the same name, is a masterwork amongst concert overtures. With its many programmatic elements, it became a favourite with the public straight away.

Bärenreiter’s new Urtext study score of this popular work is based on Christopher Hogwood’s critical edition of the concert overture (BA 9053), which was published in 2006.
