J. N. Hummel, the important Mozart and Clementi student, not only influenced Chopin and a legion of romantic virtuosos with his piano concertos. Even in his earlier piano school, Hummel developed an infinite number of pianistic playing formulas, which then found their artistic conclusion in his etudes.

 

Together with the etudes by Cramer and Czerny, they form an excellent transition to the romantic studies of Chopin, Liszt and Schumann.
