About the Composer
William Walton (1902-1983)
Sir William Walton was an English composer born in Oldham, Lancashire. He studied as a chorister at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, before gaining recognition with a piano quartet at sixteen. The Sitwell family played a crucial role in his career, providing financial and moral support. He collaborated with Edith Sitwell on Belshazzar’s Feast in 1922. Over the years, he spent time abroad, particularly in Switzerland and Italy. During World War II, he composed extensively for film and ballet, securing his reputation as one of the greatest composers for the screen.

威廉・華頓（William Walton, 1902-1983）
英國作曲家，出生於英格蘭蘭開夏郡的奧爾德姆。幼年在牛津基督堂大教堂擔任唱詩班成員，並在牛津大學就讀。16 歲時創作的鋼琴四重奏便開始受到關注。華頓的音樂事業受到席特維爾（Sitwell）家族的支持，1922 年與伊迪絲・席特維爾（Edith Sitwell）合作創作了《巴比倫王盛宴》（Belshazzar’s Feast）。1922 至 1927 年間，他頻繁前往瑞士與義大利，期間創作多部作品。二戰期間，他專注於電影與芭蕾音樂創作，並成為傑出的電影配樂作曲家之一。
