About the Composer:
Jean-Louis Duport (1749–1819) was a leading French cellist of the Classical period and younger brother of Jean-Pierre Duport. His Essai sur le doigté du violoncelle et la conduite de l’archet (Essay on Fingering the Violoncello and Bowing Technique) is one of the earliest and most influential treatises on cello technique, and the 21 etudes included in it remain a cornerstone of the cello pedagogical repertoire.
