Composed in 1886, Le Carnaval des animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) is one of Camille Saint-Saëns’ most famous and beloved works. Conceived in a small Austrian village while he was working on his Symphony No. 3 “Organ,” Saint-Saëns wrote this humorous zoological fantasy as a private entertainment for friends. Fearing it might damage his reputation as a serious composer, he allowed only one movement, The Swan, to be published during his lifetime.

The suite consists of 14 movements depicting various animals and characters, written for a chamber ensemble including two pianos, strings, winds, and percussion. The brilliant final movement unites all instruments in a lively and colorful conclusion. This edition presents Lucien Garban’s celebrated transcription for piano four hands (1922), making the full work accessible to duet pianists. New engraving with introduction and performance notes in French and English by Edmond Lemaître.

《動物狂歡節》 創作於 1886 年，是聖桑最著名且深受喜愛的音樂作品之一。這部「動物幻想曲」最初寫於奧地利的一個小村莊，當時聖桑正在創作第三號交響曲「管風琴」。作品帶有幽默與諷刺意味，本是為朋友聚會所作。由於擔心影響自己嚴肅作曲家的形象，聖桑在世時僅允許 《天鵝》 一曲公開出版。
