In contrast to Mozart, Joseph Haydn was not a keyboard virtuoso. Although he often conducted his orchestral works from the harpsichord and performed his piano sonatas himself, he never aimed to be a concertizing pianist. Only three authentic piano concertos by Haydn have survived, among which the Piano Concerto in D major, Hob. XVIII:11 is the most frequently performed. Known for its bright, charming melodies, harmonic refinement, and balanced classical structure, this concerto remains a favorite among pianists and orchestras alike.
