The Step 1–3 series is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in music reading, musical understanding, and position shifting. It gives teachers a structured way to develop musicianship, finger technique, strength and independence, smooth legato and clear staccato, as well as dynamic control—from strong contrasts between loud and soft to gradual crescendos and diminuendos.

The series also introduces basic key concepts, reinforces reading in familiar keys, and gradually expands into new musical elements such as tone quality, articulation, and additional technical skills. Rhythm is developed through familiar tunes, while enjoyable “talk-about” activities help integrate theoretical and aural learning in a natural way.

Because many of the melodies are familiar to parents as well as children, the books also encourage parental support and participation, which can be especially valuable during the early stages of musical study.

The firm, progressive “Step by Step” approach gradually leads students toward the Classical repertoire, introducing a wider range of styles and interpretation. At the same time, each book continues to include a generous selection of Fun Pieces at the back, giving children and parents enjoyable music to play and share together.

Step 第1–3級系列旨在為學生建立穩固的讀譜能力、音樂理解能力以及手位轉換基礎，同時提供教師一套循序漸進且有系統的教學方式。透過本系列，教師可以逐步培養學生的音樂素養與手指技巧，包括手指的力量與獨立性、流暢完整的圓滑奏（Legato）、清楚俐落的斷奏（Staccato），以及力度控制能力；從最初明顯的強弱對比，逐漸進展至漸強（Crescendo）與漸弱（Diminuendo）等更細膩的力度變化。

本系列同時介紹基本的調性概念，並透過學生已熟悉的調性持續加強讀譜能力，再循序加入新的音樂概念與演奏技巧，例如音色、奏法以及其他進階技巧。節奏訓練則透過孩子熟悉的旋律進行，並搭配有趣的「Talk About」討論活動，自然地將樂理知識與聽力訓練融入鋼琴學習之中，使學生不只是學會彈奏，也能進一步理解自己所演奏的音樂。
