Introduction :

Until recently, the existence of Bohuslav Martinu's 'Romance for Violin and Piano' H 186bis, composed in 1930, was entirely unknown, as the composer himself had not mentioned it. In 2022, musicologist Natálie Krátká accidentally discovered the composition in the National Library of Israel – a truly unique find from the estate of the French photographer Boris Lipnitzky, with whom Martinu was friends in Paris. This short, delicately melancholy work received its world premiere on 10 January 2023. It is now appearing in print for the first time, enriching the violin repertoire, and is suitable for less advanced violinists due to its accessible technique.
